I’ve kind of been hoping Tonner would do some more of their 13-inch superhero dolls. I’m not sure they will, because I don’t think they sold all that well. Mostly because they were pretty much the same price as the larger dolls, and with only two exceptions — Catwoman, who had a new costume, and Artemis, who was an NYCC exclusive — you could get that same character four inches taller, in the same costume, but with a unique face sculpt (and, in the case of Supergirl and Wonder Woman, without the goddamn glitter).

Don’t get me wrong, I like the “Heroine” face sculpt, and I think they did a good job of giving them different feels with just different face paints, but the smaller scale are inferior all around, and they tend to come within $10 of their larger counterpart. Tonner makes beautiful, quality dolls, but there’s something wrong with that pricing system.

And I think that’s why the 13″ heroes didn’t sell as well, and why most of them wound up going on sale, some to an extreme degree. The 13″ Supes and Wondie I got for my birthday were originally $140 each. Mom was able to get them at Tonner’s virtual warehouse sale for $25 each. Black Canary was $150, and in the end they marked her down to $90. I still want to get her, actually, but she finally sold out, so she’s going to have to be an eBay find.

And I still hope they do more. I hope they do Batgirl, because they did WW 16 fucking times, and they’ve only done Bats twice. I would love if they did Hawkgirl. They’ve only done her once, and she almost never shows up for resale, and when she does people want $300. Sometimes without even the box. Huntress was also only done once, and never shows up for resale. They could do mini versions of the Titans girls! Or do someone new! Stargirl! Iolande from the Green Lantern Corps! Batwoman. The new female Question, that would be fantastic, and they could even do a special con-exclusive duo pack with Batwoman. God, do a villain. 16 damn WWs, how about a Cheetah? Or a Poison Ivy that doesn’t look depressed? HOW ABOUT SOME 13″ MARVEL CHARACTERS, WITH THEIR OWN MARVEL FACE SCULPT?

Its either that or I’m gonna have to start getting their 13″ fashion dolls and customizing those bitches. At this rate it might be quicker, and it would sure as hell be cheaper.
